Cox Arboretum

We took a field trip to Cox Arboretum, did a scavenger hunt there, walked the trails, and meditated/did yoga for the rest of the day.

My Haigu

This Haigu was inspired by the people practicing in the canoe Stemersion on the pond, the grass, and the heat of the day.

For the Scavenger Hunt, we had to taste three things in the Edible Garden, take a picture from the top of Tree Tower, find an animal from each animal grouping, find four types of flowers in the Woodland Wildflower Area, list the names of five different tree types, take a picture at a trail head, have three different types of plant life in one picture, write for five minutes, and listen to the surrounding noises.

My Results

From the Edible Garden, I tasted mint, horseradish, and thyme. On our way to go climb the Tree Tower, we found a frog and named it Fred. We also found birds, fish, turtles, and a squirrel. The five trees we found were Cottonwood, Alder, Samtooth Oak, Aurea, and Sweetgum. Below is the piece that I wrote during the five minutes and the turtles that we found (one of them is Fred Jr).

A creek slowly tumbles over the stones beneath me. Always moving, never stopping. No matter the obstacle, the water only parts or consumes. What if we choose to be like the water. Avoiding conflict, or letting it consume us. Always bent on moving on, assuming that the end will be where we are happiest. But when we reach the end, we only drift, now purposeless. What once was a changeable path is now constrained.

When in this spot I heard birds chirping, the flowers rubbing against on another, and the trees rustling.

Unfortunately, I had to leave during lunch, so I was not their for the rest of the day, but I still enjoyed the experience.
